Using Your FirstLocal Calling Features - Voice Mail

 Dial the voice mail access number:

The following numbers are the access numbers you need to call and set up your Voice         Mailbox.   For example if you live in Columbus, you will need to dial the Columbus access  number in order to set up your voice mailbox.  Or, you can always call your home phone and access your voice mail.

Whenever you call voicemail and you are not at your own phone, press*.  Voicemail will ask  you to enter your own ten-digit telephone number.

Setting up your voice mail:

The first time you call voice mail, instructions will guide you through a quick and easy setup  procedure.  You are asked to create a passcode, record your name and record a greeting.    The voice instructions will refer to this as “getting started."

 When prompted enter your mailbox number 

 Your mail box number is:

 When asked press # to begin setting up your mailbox.

Create a passcode.  Your passcode must be between six and ten digits long.  Make sure that you pick a number that is both easy for you to remember and difficult for others to guess. Press #.   

Record your name.  You will hear your name in your own voice to confirm you have entered the right mailbox each time you access your voice mailbox.  Press#.

Record your personal greeting.  Callers will hear this recording when they enter your voice mailbox.  Press #.  Voicemail will play the greeting back to you and give you the opportunity to change it if you wish.

Record your busy greeting.  Callers will hear your recording when you have set your voice mailbox for a busy greeting.  Press #.

After setting up your mailbox, you will return to the Main Menu.  Messages can be received    in your voice mailbox prior to activating your greeting.

From this point, you should have a voicemail greeting for those calling your voicemail.   Now, you can program Speed Dial 8 from your home phone and you won’t have the hassle of dialing the 10-digit number every time you want to check your voicemail from home. 

To access Speed Dial 8- please use the following instructions:

Dial 74 and then press #.

Listen for the dial tone.

Dial a one-digit code (please use numbers 2 though 9 as your code).

Then dial the 10 digit voice mail access number.

Two short tones will confirm your request. 

From now on when you want to check your voicemail from home just dial the one digit speed dial code you programmed and it will automatically take you to your voicemail box.  This saves you time from dialing the 10- digit access number.

Accessing Your Voice Mailbox:

From your own phone with Voice mail.

  1. Dial  your one digit speed dial code then press #.

  2. Enter your passcode.

From any other phone.

  1. Dial the voice mail access number.
  2. Press *.
  3. Enter your ten-digit mailbox number.
  4. Enter your passcode.
    That’s all you need to do to arrive at the Main Menu.  If you are unsure of the procedure, dial your Voice Mail Access Number and listen to the voice instructions.

Main Menu:

The main Menu is the first set of options you will hear after entering your passcode.  The main menu serves as a landmark, helping to orient you within the menu structure.  When you move into the menu structure and then return to the Main Menu, the service will announce your return, by stating “Main Menu.” 

When you first arrive at the main menu you will hear the number of new messages and saved messages in your mailbox.  If you have any new messages in your mailbox, you will hear, “ To listen to your messages, press [1].”  You will not hear this prompt if you do not have any new or saved messages in your mailbox. 

 Frequently Asked Questions about your Enhanced Voice Mail

Will anyone else know my passcode?

No.  It is completely confidential.  Only you will know your passcode.

What happens if I forget my passcode?

You will need to contact Customer Care at 800-274-1015 and request a new temporary passcode.  You will not need to set up your mailbox again and you will not lose any of your messages.

How many times can I attempt to key in my passcode if I key in the wrong Passcode when trying to enter my mailbox?

You have a total of three attempts.  If you are unsuccessful on the third attempt, you will hear “Thank you for calling,” before being disconnected you must then redial the voicemail access number to try again.  

Can I change my greeting?

Yes.  When you set up your mailbox, you are required to record a greeting.

What if I do not want my name played to callers and other Voice Mail Subscribers?

If you would like to protect your privacy, when asked to record your greeting simply state your telephone number instead. 

What happens if I pick up the phone while a caller is recording a message?

 

You will hear a dial tone.  You cannot talk to the caller at this point because the caller has been forwarded to your Voice Mailbox.

If I accidentally erase a message can I get it back?

Yes.  Your messages are not actually erased until you hang up.  Wait until you return to the Main Menu, then listen to your messages again by pressing [1].  When you find the message you accidentally erased, press [2] to save it.

Enhanced  Voicemail Listen Menu:

By Pressing:

 

1 Repeat Repeats the message from the beginning.
2 Save Saves the messages.
3 Erase Erases the messages from the beginning.
4 Reply Enables the subscriber to record a reply to the sender of the message. You can only reply to messages from other Voice Mail subscribers on your system. 
5 Copy Enables the subscriber to send a copy of the message, along with an explanatory message, to other Voice Mail subscribers on the same system. 
6 Options When pressing 6 it will take you to other options.
7 Rewind Rewinds the message in five-second intervals.  You may press 7 anytime while the message is being heard.
8 Pause Pauses twenty seconds while listening to a message.  To cancel the pause function prior to the end of the twenty seconds, press any key.
9 Forward Forwards the message in five-second intervals.
* Cancel Stops your messages and returns you to the Main Menu. Pressing * while listening to messages completely restarts the listen cycle and all messages are treated as new messages regardless of previous action taken.
0 Help Announces additional options.
# Skip Skips to the next message.  If the active message is new, it will remain a new message when skipped.
