Job Summary
FirstComm, a leading provider of cloud communications, is seeking an experienced Sales Solutions Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will be a key technical advisor and solution designer in the sales process, specializing in our full suite of offerings: Unified Communications-as-a-Service (UCaaS), Software-Defined WAN (SD-WAN), Managed Security, Cloud Contact Center platforms, and other managed service offerings. You will collaborate with account executives to understand customer needs and design comprehensive solutions that leverage FirstComm’s portfolio, effectively communicating how our products meet business objectives and drive new revenue. This position provides pre-sales engineering support – including needs analysis, solution architecture, technical presentations, and RFP responses – and ensures a smooth transition from sale to implementation by coordinating with post-sales teams as needed. The ideal candidate has strong technical expertise across telecom and IT services, excellent communication skills, and a passion for helping customers achieve success through technology.
Key Responsibilities
• Support Sales Targets: Contribute directly to the company’s sales goals by driving the technical win for opportunities. Your ability to design the right solution and instill confidence in the customer significantly influences deal success. Take a results-driven approach and assist in strategizing how to win key deals, including identifying upsell/cross-sell opportunities within your technical discussions. Meet or exceed your objectives for supporting revenue quarterly and annually, demonstrating a personal commitment to achieving team sales quotas
• Technical Sales Support: Provide expert technical support to the sales team and prospective clients throughout the sales cycle. This includes assessing customer requirements and recommending appropriate solutions spanning UCaaS, SD-WAN, security, connectivity, and contact center services. Serve as the go-to technical resource for questions and solution guidance.
• Solution Design: Design and document custom solutions that integrate our voice, data, and managed security services to meet client needs. Develop network diagrams, proposals, and scopes of work that align with the customer’s technical and business requirements. Ensure proposed architectures are scalable, secure, and cost-effective.
• Product Demonstrations: Deliver engaging technical presentations and live demonstrations of FirstComm’s products to customer stakeholders. Clearly articulate the value and capabilities of our solutions, adjusting to technical and non-technical audiences and addressing any technical concerns on the spot.
• Deal Collaboration: Work closely with Account Executives to strategize and drive deals to closure. Participate in client meetings as the technical lead, address technical objections, and ensure the solution aligns with the customer’s goals. Help develop account strategies and iron out technical details during contract negotiations, contributing to winning new business.
• Proposal & RFP Response: Lead the technical components of proposals and RFP/RFI responses. Write clear, accurate explanations of how our services meet or exceed requirements. Compile answers on network design, security, compliance, and implementation approach, making sure all customer questions are fully addressed.

Build strong customer relationships by guiding them through solution evaluations (e.g. pilots or trials) and instilling confidence in our services. Work with implementation teams post-sale to ensure a smooth transition, and remain available to advise on technical questions through onboarding.
• Knowledge Sharing: Stay up-to-date on industry trends and product updates in cloud communications, networking, and cybersecurity. Continuously expand your knowledge and share insights with both customers and internal teams. Assist in training sales staff on new offerings or complex solutions to improve overall team expertise. Provide feedback to product management regarding customer needs and observed market trends, helping to improve our offerings.
Qualifications & Skills
• Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience). 5+ years experience in a Sales Engineering or similar technical pre-sales role, preferably in telecommunications or managed IT services. Proven track record in designing and selling solutions like UCaaS, network services, or security solutions to business customers.
• Technical Expertise: Strong technical knowledge across unified communications (VoIP, hosted PBX, collaboration tools), data networking (LAN/WAN, routing, switching; expertise in SD-WAN solutions, firewalls, VPNs, managed security platforms). Ability to design integrated solutions that combine these domains to meet customer needs. Familiarity with industry-leading platforms and technologies in cloud voice and networking is expected.
• Communication Skills: Excellent communication and presentation abilities. Able to translate complex technical concepts into clear business value and explain solutions in simple terms. Comfortable presenting to both IT professionals and executive audiences. Strong writing skills for proposals and documentation.
• Customer Focus: A consultative, customer-focused approach to sales. Proven skills in listening to clients, understanding their challenges, and building trust through problem-solving. Experience in tailoring solutions to address specific customer pain points and delivering an outstanding customer experience.
• Teamwork & Organization: Collaborative team player who can work effectively with sales colleagues, engineers, and service delivery teams. Able to manage multiple projects or sales opportunities simultaneously while keeping track of details and deadlines. Strong organizational skills to handle the documentation and follow-ups required in a fast-paced sales environment.
• Results Orientation: Self-motivated and results-driven, with a track record of contributing to sales wins and meeting or exceeding targets. Able to take initiative to drive deals forward and work through obstacles.
• Additional Qualifications: Relevant certifications (VoIP/UC or network security certifications) are a plus and demonstrate a strong foundation. Willingness to travel approximately 20% for client meetings and industry events (must have valid driver’s license for travel).
